The Story
The Builder The Field The Trees Why Onsight

Where It Started

A decade of doing it right.

Onsight grew out of something simple: a belief that if you are going to do something, you should do it right. Over more than a decade, I have taken on nearly every major project a home can throw at you — window replacements, siding, decks, fences, sheds, and full kitchen and bathroom remodels.

Most of that work was on my own home. That means I was not just a contractor watching the clock — I was the homeowner living with the results. That changes how you work. You think about the details differently when you are the one who has to look at the grout lines every morning.

What started as personal projects became a body of real, hands-on experience. And at some point it made sense to offer that experience to other homeowners who want the same thing I always wanted: someone who will treat their house like it matters.

Drone Operations

Precision in demanding environments.

Before Onsight, I spent time operating drones in some of the most remote and demanding field environments on the planet — from sea ice in the Arctic to the tip of Patagonia. That work required the kind of precision and adaptability that you cannot fake: weather changes fast, equipment has to work, and the margin for error is often zero.

I hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, and I bring that same fieldwork discipline to every drone engagement — whether it is a roof inspection in Boulder or a property survey on a steep, wooded lot in Whatcom County.

Aerial data is only as useful as the person interpreting it. Because I also work on the ground — building, assessing, planning — I know what to look for and how to communicate what I find in terms that actually help you make decisions.

Tree Care

Learning the trees.

Tree care came later, and I will be honest about that. I am not a certified arborist with decades of commercial climbing under my belt. What I have is several years of hands-on experience, a serious commitment to doing the work safely and correctly, and a genuine interest in trees as living systems — not just obstacles to manage.

I take on tree work that is appropriate to my skills and equipment, and I will tell you plainly when a job calls for someone else. That kind of honesty is part of the service.

In both Boulder and Bellingham, trees and fire risk are deeply connected. My drone background gives me a useful perspective here — I can assess a property from the air, map fuel zones, and help homeowners understand their risk in a way that most tree services do not offer.

The Name

Why Onsight.

Onsight is a rock climbing term for completing a climb, first try, no mistakes, no falls. It is a challenage and a point of pride to onsight a climb.

That felt like the right standard for this business. You show up, you read the situation, and you do the work right the first time. No callbacks, no excuses.

The em dash in the name is intentional too. Onsight — Building, Home & Site Services. A pause, then a clear statement of what we do. That is how I try to work: think first, then act deliberately.

Fall, Winter & Spring
Boulder, CO

Serving Boulder and the surrounding Front Range communities. The Front Range has a particular character — dry summers, hard winters, fire risk, and homes that take a beating from the elements. I know this landscape and what it asks of the people who maintain property here.

Summer
Bellingham, WA

Serving Bellingham and Whatcom County through the summer. The Pacific Northwest presents its own set of conditions — moisture, moss, mature conifers, and the particular maintenance demands of homes in a wet climate. It is a different set of problems, and a place I know well.
